Great bass recorder "Direct-Blow", Master, natural birch plywood, Paetzold by Kunath

Product information "Great bass recorder "Direct-Blow", Master, natural birch plywood, Paetzold by Kunath"

General information

The instrument from the MASTER model series with the model number: 459DB manufactured by Paetzold by Kunath is a recorder that is a joy to play both in the classroom and on stage.
This special feature is largely due to the carefully considered combination of the pioneering construction concept with the tone colours of the birch plywood material used.

The unique sound characteristics of this instrument are strikingly pleasing. The characteristics can be summarised as follows: Ensemble-capable.

The scale

The inner bore of the recorder is cylindrical and wider. This type of bore gives the recorder its typical sound.
In principle, instruments with a wider bore sound warmer, fuller, more fundamental and therefore more suitable for ensembles than models with a narrower inner bore.

For which musical styles is the recorder best suited?

Birch plywood is ideal for instruments that are used in ensembles, in choral playing and as a solo instrument.

Who is this recorder aimed at?

This means that instruments made of birch plywood are particularly suitable for beginners. A second rule is that a higher quality instrument is generally more pleasant to play than a poor quality one.

The windway of the recorder

The windway is the area in the headjoint of the recorder where the musician's blowing air is moulded into a thin sheet of air. This air blade is the nucleus of the recorder's sound. In interaction with the labium, the vibration that generates the flute sound is created from this air blade. The shape of the windway is therefore extremely relevant for the response and sound of the instrument.

The model 459DB from Paetzold by Kunath has a windway that is straight and conical in shape.
Conically shaped windways accelerate the air more than cylindrical ones.
Windways are very complex in their design and many parameters influence each other.

Fingering

The Paetzold by Kunath MASTER 459DB instrument is available in the following fingering: Baroque fingering.

Keys

It is not always possible to place the tone holes in places in the body that are easy to reach with the fingers. Especially on larger instruments, some tone holes are located in positions that are impossible to reach for tuning reasons. On such instruments, the instrument maker adds key mechanisms that make playing much easier or even possible in the first place.
The 459DB instrument has the following keys: Paetzold full folding. This makes it easy to play even for players with smaller hands. The shape of the keys is unique and legally protected. Especially in Taiwan and Korea, these instruments are often used in recorder orchestras by well-known teachers for adolescent players.
But alto players with small hands also appreciate the advantages of the Paetzold full-flap recorder.

Construction of the body

The number of individual parts of an instrument strongly influences the way in which the recorder can be easily assembled and safely transported during daily use.
This is a point that should not be underestimated, especially when transporting larger (and sometimes several) instruments.
Leaders of large playing groups will agree with us.

Packaging and accessories

The instrument is supplied as standard with an optional bag/case and the following accessories: grease tin, fingering chart, care instructions

Hygiene tips

If the recorder is lent out again and again, it is advisable to sterilise the windway at regular intervals for your own protection. In these cases, Flautisept has proved its worth. Flautisept is available in our collection.

Tips for finding a new instrument

How to find your future instrument easily
Ask people you know!
Under no circumstances should you let "generally accepted" rules such as "brand xy doesn't work at all in ensembles / for professionals" stop you from testing a recorder yourself. Your musical sensitivity is as unique as you are. Therefore, only you can decide for yourself which recorder tempts you personally to "make music endlessly".
Our recommendation is therefore: Test unknown designs that you may never have tried before. You can't lose anything, you can only gain experience.
