The instrument from the MASTER series with the model number: 469-AO from the Paetzold by Kunath workshop is an instrument that is always a joy to play, both in the classroom and on stage.
This is largely due to the clever combination of the special design in symbiosis with the sound characteristics of the birch plywood used.

The special qualities of the material used in this instrument are strikingly pleasing. The characteristics can be described as follows, whereby it is in the nature of things that sounds can only ever be inadequately described in words. Therefore, the sound of recorders is perceived and described slightly differently by each person: Wooden and warm.

The scale

The geometry of the inner bore of the recorder is cylindrical and wider. This type of bore gives the model its typical sound.
In principle, instruments with a wider bore sound warmer, fuller, more fundamental and therefore more suitable for ensembles than recorders with a narrower inner bore.

The windway of a recorder

The windway is the area in the headjoint of the recorder where the musician's breath is moulded into a thin sheet of air. This air blade is the nucleus of a recorder's sound production. At the labium, the leaf of air becomes the fundamental vibration that generates the flute sound. The shape of the windway is therefore one of the defining principles for the musical expressiveness of the recorder.

The model 469-AO from Paetzold by Kunath has a windway that is straight and conical.
Conically shaped windways accelerate the air more than cylindrical ones.
Windways are extremely complex in their design and many parameters interact.

Keys

It is not always possible to place tone holes in places in the instrument that are comfortable and easy to reach with the hands. For tuning reasons, some tone holes on low instruments in particular are located in places that are ergonomically inaccessible. These instruments are fitted with tuners that make playing easier or even possible in the first place.
The instrument 469-AO has the following keys: Paetzold full folding. This means that it can also be played ergonomically by players with smaller hands. This key mechanism is unique and legally protected. Especially in Korea and Taiwan, these models are often used in youth ensembles by leading teachers for adolescent players.
But alto players with small hands also appreciate the advantages of the Paetzold full-folding mechanism.

Multi-piece construction

The construction of a woodwind instrument strongly influences the way in which the recorder can be handled in terms of ease of assembly on the one hand and safe transport on the other during daily use.
This is a point that should not be underestimated, especially when transporting larger (and sometimes several) instruments.
